Who doesn’t love blueberries, one of the tastiest, healthiest fruits you can eat? The deep, earthy, sweet taste of Pure Fresh premium blueberries leaves you with the happy feeling of having eaten something that is candy-like delicious and good for you too.
Blueberries are native to North America but are now grown and
enjoyed throughout the world. Grown with environmental best
practices on model farms in Chile and Argentina,
Pure Fresh blueberries, including organic blueberries,
are lovingly harvested and shipped when they are at
their peak of flavor and freshness.
Super-nutritious blueberries get their distinctive red-blue color from an abundance of anthocyanin, a powerful antioxidant that may fight aging, cancer, inflammation, infection, and disease. Increasing awareness of the health benefits of eating low-calorie blueberries has encouraged Americans to more than double their per capita consumption of the fruit in the last fifteen years. Fat-free blueberries are high in phytonutrients, fiber, Vitamin C, and manganese.
Fresh blueberries should be plump, smooth, round, and completely blue with a natural silvery sheen. Avoid packages with shriveled, misshapen, or moldy berries and obvious blueberry stains.
Firm and relatively long-lasting, blueberries can be stored in the Pure Fresh container in the refrigerator for a week or more. Do not wash, as water encourages spoilage, but rinse when ready to use by tossing in a bowl of water and picking out any that float.
If you can resist eating all your Pure Fresh blueberries immediately, you can easily freeze blueberries for later use. Do not rinse blueberries before freezing, as that can toughen the skins. Freeze your blueberries in airtight containers or bags. Best for cooking or in smoothies, frozen blueberries are good for up to a year.
Fresh, healthy blueberries make an excellent anytime snack for children and adults; great in yoghurt, cereal, smoothies, pancakes and muffins too. Toss the pretty berries in a fruit salad along with your Pure Fresh blackberries, raspberries, and strawberries, and some nutritious grated coconut or toasted almond slivers. Get adventurous and sprinkle a couple of tablespoons of Cointreau or other liqueur on the berry salad and let sit for 30 minutes or so. A blueberry tart is easy to make: simply mix blueberries with some melted butter, a little sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and a sprinkling of flour, add some thin lemon slices, and pour into a partially-baked pastry crust and bake until crust is done and blueberries are bubbling. Or dress up a store-bought cheesecake with a topping of blueberries.
